Have you ever doubted whether God is faithful? Have you sat in front of that stack of overdue bills, a medical diagnosis, a broken marriage, the loss of a child?
Oh boy, I sure have.
Not overtly, because in my head I know better. But in the shadows of loss, or in the transition between promise given and promise fulfilled, sometimes it can look like the trajectory of your life is moving AWAY from the promises God has given you instead of toward them. In those moments, when I was honest with myself, instead of moving toward Him in trust, I would move away in disappointment, thinking I’d missed God.
But disappointment is a freakin lie.
Dealing With Disappointment
Disappointment is the belief that you’ve failed God, or that God failed you. It’s the loss of hope and the beginning stages of resignation that you’ll never see the goodness of God manifest in your life. This kind of disappointment is a powerful tool of the enemy to steal, kill and destroy our passions, our dreams and our purpose.
And it’s ooooh so wrong.
But what do you do when that happens?
As a “good Christian girl” I would just take a deep breath and figure that I missed God, put on my big girl pants and move on, letting that dream go in dejected resignation. I called it surrender and thought I was growing in maturity as I “moved on.”
Now, I look back on “mature me” and want to shout at her, tell her how wrong she was and how she totally missed the heart of the Father. Her logic, although based in good intentions, was incredibly flawed because she had a faulty understanding of God’s faithfulness. She was basing this understanding on my track record with flawed humans who are unfaithful, abandon and drop the ball.
But That. Isn’t. God.
Hello, My Name Is Faithfulness
Faithfulness isn’t just an action by God, like “God got a snow cone” or “God mopped the floors.” Yeah, yeah… I jest. But seriously… God doesn’t ACT in faithfulness, He IS faithfulness. He is faithfulness personified. Because of that, it is impossible for Him to be UNfaithful. “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (Numbers 23:19)
God is faithful. Period, end of story.
It took me a long time to get a good grasp on that concept, but I created a tool that was integral in helping reprogram my faulty thinking. I’d love to share that with you.
Solutions For Success
Lean in and listen closely cuz this will literally change your life. Ready for this?
I made a list. 🙂
Earth shattering, mind-blowing solution right?
But it’s incredible how powerful such a simple solution is!
I bought this cute little Bible in my favorite translation (The Passion Translation) and I put little sticky tabs to mark every single verse God gave me about how He was going to keep His promises. I color coded my verses by topic and while I have three primary topics tagged, we’ll just be looking at the orange ones in this post. These are the verses He gave me about keeping His promises and my standing on His goodness and His faithfulness. He knew I needed some reprogramming too. 😉
When my faith got wobbly and I started feeling that all too familiar assault of doubt and disappointment creep in, I would pull out what I’d dubbed my “Promises Bible” and I would read through every single tabbed and color-coded verse, OUT LOUD, until that feeling subsided and my faith returned.
If you find yourself going through a season of doubt or disappointment, I challenge you to take this list, find the verse(s) that speak to you and DISPLAY THEM PROMINENTLY in your home. On your fridge, on your bathroom mirror, in a frame by your bedside.
Or do what I did and make yourself a Promises Bible. Read the words OUT LOUD, there is power in the spoken word.
Don’t let the enemy steal your purpose and your promises. We have all authority over his influence in our lives, and this is a sure-fire way to destroy any foothold he might try and gain in your life.
Hebrews 10:23
“So now wrap your heart tightly around the hope that lives within us, knowing that God always keeps his promises!”

Old Testament
God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”
“Ask me to give you the nations and I will do it, and they shall become your legacy. Your domain will stretch to the ends of the earth.”
“He rescued me from the mighty waters and drew me to himself! Even though I was helpless in the hands of my hateful, strong enemy, you were good to deliver me. When I was at my weakest, my enemies attacked—but the Lord held on to me. His love broke open the way, and he brought me into a beautiful, broad place. He rescued me—because his delight is in me!”
“Yahweh, what a perfect God you are! All Yahweh’s promises have proven true. What a secure shelter for all those who turn to hide themselves in you, the wraparound God. Could there be any other god like Yahweh? For there is not a more secure foundation than you.”
“Keep trusting in the Lord and do what is right in his eyes. Fix your heart on the promises of God, and you will dwell in the land, feasting on his faithfulness. Find your delight and true pleasure in Yahweh, and he will give you what you desire the most. Give God the right to direct your life, and as you trust him along the way, you’ll find he pulled it off perfectly! He will appear as your righteousness, as sure as the dawning of a new day. He will manifest as your justice, as sure and strong as the noonday sun. Quiet your heart in his presence and wait patiently for Yahweh. And don’t think for a moment that the wicked, in their prosperity, are better off than you.”
“A new song for a new day rises up in me every time I think about how he breaks through for me! Ecstatic praise pours out of my mouth until everyone hears how God has set me free. Many will see his miracles; they’ll stand in awe of God and fall in love with him!”
“But I will never, no never, lift my faithful love from off their lives. My kindness will prevail and I will never disown them. How could I revoke my covenant of love that I promised David? For I have given him my word, my holy, irrevocable word. How could I lie to my loving servant David? Sons of David will continue to reign on his throne, and their kingdom will endure as long as the sun is in the sky. This covenant will be an unbreakable promise that I have established for all time.”
“For though a thousand generations may pass away, he is still true to his word. He has kept every promise he made to Abraham and to Isaac. His promises have become an everlasting covenant to Jacob, as a decree to Jacob.”
“He satisfies all who love and trust him, and he keeps every promise he makes.”
“Lord, never forget the promises you’ve made to me, for they are my hope and confidence. In all of my affliction I find great comfort in your promises, for they have kept me alive!”
“All your promises glow with fire; that’s why I’m a lover of your Word.”
New Testament
“And if you belong to Christ, then you are now Abraham’s “child” and a true heir of all his blessings because of the promise God made to Abraham!”
“And we pray that you would be energized with all his explosive power from the realm of his magnificent glory, filling you with great hope. Your hearts can soar with joyful gratitude when you think of how God made you worthy to receive the glorious inheritance freely given to us by living in the light.”
“Never restrain or put out the fire of the Holy Spirit. And don’t be one who scorns prophecies, but be faithful to examine them by putting them to the test, and afterward hold tightly to what has proven to be right.”
“The one who calls you by name is trustworthy and will thoroughly complete his work in you.”
“So Timothy, my son, I am entrusting you with this responsibility, in keeping with the very first prophecies that were spoken over your life, and are now in the process of fulfillment in this great work of ministry, in keeping with the prophecies spoken over you. With this encouragement use your prophecies as weapons as you wage spiritual warfare by faith and with a clean conscience.”
“And without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that he is real and that he rewards the faith of those who passionately seek him.”
“Sarah’s faith embraced God’s miracle power to conceive even though she was barren and was past the age of childbearing, for the authority of her faith rested in the One who made the promise, and she tapped into his faithfulness.”
“And what more could I say to convince you? For there is not enough time to tell you of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets. Through faith’s power they conquered kingdoms and established true justice. Their faith fastened onto their promises and pulled them into reality! It was faith that shut the mouth of lions, put out the power of raging fire, and caused many to escape certain death by the sword. Although weak, their faith imparted power to make them strong! Faith sparked courage within them and they became mighty warriors in battle, pulling armies from another realm into battle array. Faith-filled women saw their dead children raised in resurrection power.”
“Every gift God freely gives us is good and perfect, streaming down from the Father of lights, who shines from the heavens with no hidden shadow or darkness and is never subject to change.”
“Since we have this confidence, we can also have great boldness before him, for if we ask anything agreeable to his will, he will hear us.”
